Company Overview

Borica are one of the market leaders in the production of organotitanate and organozirconate speciality chemicals. They were founded in 1998 and yet only 25 years later, their titanate and zirconate production plant in Shandong, China is the largest in the world with a production capacity of 10,000 mT p.a.

Borica's values and philosophies are founded in the roots of the management team's ICI background. They focus on continuously improving, while still delivering consistent quality and cost-effective products that can be designed and produced in line with their stringent safety, health and environment policies.

Broadly speaking, the organotitanate and organozirconate materials under the TYTAN™ brand name serve as chemical catalysts, sealant additives, adhesion promoters and cross-linkers, rheology modifiers or coupling and dispersing agents. This extensive range means Borica products are widely used in coatings, plastics and inks.

Additives for Recycled Thermoplastics

Thermoplastics are fantastic engineering materials. They are low cost, lightweight, easy to process and provide excellent durability. It’s no surprise therefore that thermoplastics are omnipresent in our lives, with the average European citizen consuming on average 50 kg per year. High time then to scrutinise thermoplastics from a sustainability standpoint.

An introduction to rheological additives for coatings

Rheology – from the Greek rheos - is the study of flow and is used to describe the deformation of a material under stress. The effects of rheology can be seen everywhere; compare oil, honey, and bitumen, all are liquids yet each flows very differently. Controlling rheology is crucial for the paint formulator to not only provide enhanced application properties but also to provide long term stability. In this technical article, we will discuss the fundamental principles of rheology, how this relates to coatings, and will take a closer look at materials that can be used to modify flow behaviour.
