Alcohol-free hand sanitiser tested to effectively kill Coronavirus

Are you struggling to find supply of alcohol to formulate hand sanitiser or are you looking for an alternative to alcohol that will NOT dry out the skin and cause it to crack? Then we have a solution for you!

Iscaguard VIR is an active ingredient that can be used in the place of alcohol in hand sanitisers at only 1% addition. A sample of hand sanitiser containing the active ingredient was submitted to one of the leading independent lab facilities in the UK for evaluation against Betacoronavirus - the closest surrogate available to the Wuhan Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. The hand sanitiser was tested according to BS EN 14476:2013 + A2:2019 which is the most severe test for virucidal activity.

The results show that the hand sanitiser demonstrated a log reduction of 4.0 which represents a kill rate of 99.99% against the virus. Accordingly, such a result can form the basis of an end-product claim for efficacy against the Wuhan virus, SARS-CoV-2 as long as the formulation below (Table 1) is followed:

The efficacy of hand sanitisers using different raw materials would have to be tested independently. Equivalent raw materials may be used. In addition, Iscaguard VIR will provide antibacterial and fungicidal properties and is not limited to use in hand sanitisers – it can also be used in wet wipes at the same concentration level (1%). Although the wet wipe formulation has not been tested against Coronavirus, its efficacy has been tested against Human Influenza Virus A (H1N1), Norovirus and HFMFD according to EN14476:2005. We will be able to share the wet wipe formulation upon request.

This product can also be used in hard surfaces cleaners but will need to be tested.
