We're looking for a Chemistry or Materials Science graduate to join our team

 

Lawrence Industries is a long-established speciality chemicals distributor and represents leading chemical manufacturers from across Europe, the USA and Asia.  We supply raw materials such as additives, pigments, minerals and catalysts into a wide range of industries in the UK including coatings, construction, polymers, cosmetics and agrochemicals.  Due to ongoing growth, we're looking for an Internal Sales Manager to join our team.

 

Location: Tamworth (Staffordshire)

Salary: £18K to £27K + commission

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00

 

The role

We are seeking an ambitious, highly motivated Chemistry or Materials Science graduate with an affinity for polymeric materials to join our team in a sales role. The role will be internal sales, with the intention to develop into a fully-fledged sales manager position within a foreseeable timeframe. The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and will be responsible for developing business with new and existing customers across several industry areas, predominantly in thermoplastics and thermosets. The role will also entail marketing duties to support the overall marketing strategy, including writing engaging technical articles for our website.

 

Responsibilities

Following an extensive technical and commercial training programme, the role will involve:

  • Account management – maintaining and developing strong relationships with our existing customers, including responsibility for several industry groups, primarily in the fields of thermoplastics and thermosets
  • Source new sales opportunities through responding to and qualifying inbound leads
  • Route qualified leads to technical sales managers for further development and closure if necessary
  • Identify new business opportunities through prospecting and market research
  • As part of the wider marketing strategy and training, produce engaging technical articles and multimedia on a range of topics

 

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A 2:1 BSc or higher in Chemistry or related field, or relevant industrial experience
  • An affinity for polymer science and chemistry is desirable
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior copywriting or marketing experience is desirable but not essential
  • Full UK driving licence

The successful candidate will receive extensive training and will benefit from an attractive salary and benefits package including 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Initially primarily office-based, the role will develop into a sales manager role involving both UK and International travel and the opportunity to work with some of the leading names in the chemical industry.

Koen studied chemistry at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium with a specialisation in polymers. He subsequently obtained a PhD in the field of responsive polymeric coatings from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has been with Lawrence Industries since 2019 as a technical sales manager, covering all areas involving polymers: thermoplastics, thermosets, and elastomers.
