AERODISP®
Fumed Silica & Metal Oxide Dispersions
AERODISP® products incorporate a range of fumed silica and metal oxides into both aqueous and non-aqueous media. There are options available with regards to the solids content, pH and the surface charge of the dispersions. This allow for their use in a wide variety of coating systems.
Most grades have a low viscosity and don’t thicken systems like the powder AEROSIL® grades do. As a consequence, the formulator can achieve high solid levels whilst still maintaining a workable viscosity. This can give significant improvements in scratch resistance, anti-slip, anti-blocking and pigment/emulsion stability.
Cationic grades are very popular for high quality inkjet paper coatings as they are able to fix dyes and pigments, leading to improvements in colour gamut, print uniformity, print resolution and smudge/rub/water resistance.
There are also some speciality grades such as the AERODISP® G 1220 which is used as an anti-blocking agent in PET films. AERODISP® W 1244 is used in the intumescent, silicate-based, layer incorporated into fire-resistant glass.
