AQUANEX

Product Overview

AQUANEX is a comprehensive range of water-based polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) developed and manufactured by Interplast Kimya. The range represents a sustainable alternative to solvent-based systems for coating, textile and adhesive applications.

The AQUANEX portfolio features PUDs based on aliphatic polyester, aliphatic polyether, aliphatic polycarbonate and aromatic polyether chemistries. This diversity of polymer backbones provides formulators with extensive flexibility to match specific performance requirements across multiple applications. Each chemistry type offers distinct performance characteristics: polyester-based grades provide excellent flexibility and adhesion, polyether-based grades deliver superior hydrolysis resistance and durability, while polycarbonate grades offer enhanced mechanical strength and chemical resistance.

The range encompasses products with hardness levels from extra-soft (modulus 5 kg/cm²) to very hard (modulus 150 kg/cm²), enabling use in applications requiring extreme flexibility through to those demanding maximum abrasion resistance. Solid contents range from 20% to 50%, with most grades offering 30-40% solids for optimal balance of handling properties and build characteristics. Viscosities are tailored to application methods, from low viscosity grades (50 mPa·s) suitable for spray application to higher viscosity options (up to 6000 mPa·s) for screen printing and coating applications.

The AQUANEX range includes both NMP-containing and solvent-free (DMM co-solvent only) formulations, addressing varying regulatory requirements and sustainability goals. Aliphatic grades offer excellent yellowing resistance for light-stable finishes on leather, wood and textiles, whilst the aromatic grade provides exceptional wetting power for challenging substrates. Specialised thermoadhesive grades with crystalline polyester backbones are available for heat-activated bonding applications in footwear and lamination.
