Fire Retardant Additives for Thermal Runaway
Expandable graphite and Quarzwerke minerals can be used to enhance flame-retardant systems for EV safety.
SILBOND® fused silica is an ultra-high purity quartz manufactured by an electric arcing process that takes place at around 2000°C. One of its most outstanding qualities is the extremely low thermal coefficient of expansion, 0.5 x 10-6/K. Furthermore, it has excellent thermal shock resistance, a high transformation temperature, a high softening temperature, low thermal conductivity, good optical light transmission, corrosion resistance and a diffusion-blocking effect against most substances. These properties make it an ideal material for use in electrical insulation, casting resin systems, electronics, precision casting and technical ceramics.
Various sizes and surface modifications can enhance the compatibility with the continuous media of the composite.
SILBOND® FW 12 EST shows a very low electrical loss factor before and after immersion in water. Similarly, mechanical properties are also well maintained. This makes it ideal for use in medium-high voltage epoxy resin composites.
