Dispersing Agents for Pigments and Fillers

Münzing Chemie offer a range of polymeric dispersing agents under the EDAPLAN® and METOLAT® ranges. There are grades which stabilise via electrostatic, steric and electrosteric repulsion. Chemistries are based on acrylic ester, olefin, fatty acid and other higher molecular weight copolymers. There are effective solutions for carbon black, titanium dioxide, transparent iron oxides, laked azos, phthalocyanines, silica, mica, matting agents, “white fillers” (calcium carbonate, talc etc.) and much more. The ranges are geared heavily towards water based formulations but there are solutions for solvent based as well. There are grades that meet food contact at legislative requirements.

Polymeric stabilisers offer reduced grind viscosity and shorter dispersing times. In the final system they provide high colour strength, gloss and colour shade stability. They will provide improved compatibility with resin systems, resulting in less shock out/rub out. Grades can be chosen to improve water resistance, film hardness and scrub resistance as well.

The exact choice of dispersing agent will depend on the polarity and surface chemistry of the pigment/filler, the medium it is to be dispersed in, solids content, other formulation components and the pigment dispersion method. We can offer practical advice on choosing the right grade for your project so get in touch with us today to discuss.

    • High molecular weight (co)polymers with pigment affinic groups.

    • Carried in water, a range of solvents or 100% active.

    • Anionic or non-ionic charge.

    • Food contact grades available.

    • Options for VOC-, solvent- and APEO- free.

    • Efficient stabilisation via electrostatic, steric and electrosteric hindrance; resulting in low agglomeration and prevention of gelling or hard settling on storage.

    • Reduced milling time and therefore energy costs. Reduced grind viscosity. Low foaming.

    • Excellent colour strength, gloss and colour shade stability in final product.

    • Effective solutions for dispersing a wide range of solids.

    • Grades available that give improved water and scrub resistance.

Typical Applications

    • Paints and coatings.

    • Printing inks.

    • Pigment concentrates.

    • Dispersing pigments in epoxy resins.

Featured grades with technical datasheets

A brief overview of the key grades is given below. You will find the Technical Datasheets (TDS) available for download. If you are looking for a Safety Datasheet (SDS) or Product Safety Information (PSI) then please get in touch by phone or via the contact buttons at the top of the page.

Should you not find what you are looking for here then please note that we have further grades available besides these. One of our Technical Sales team will be happy to help. All of the sales team are technically qualified and will be able to advise you on which product to choose. You can either call us, email us or fill in a quick form at the top of the page to get us to call you (Request a Callback). A sample can be requested via the button at the top of the page as well. Please note that by providing us with your contact details, you are agreeing for us to potentially contact you.

Related brochures & technical literature

You will find some of the key product brochures available for download below. There are more brochures available upon request. If you would like to discuss your enquiry further then please get in contact by phone or by filling in the "Request a Callback" form at the top of the page. Someone from the technical sales team will then call you within 24 hours, to discuss your project further.
