Halogen-Free Flame Retardants

A LUH graphite pencil pushing down into foam

Product Overview

LUH expandable graphites are halogen free flame retardants that combine the highest fire protection requirements with sustainability considerations. In the event of a fire, the graphite layers expand to form a protective intumescent char. The char layer slows down the spread of the fire and protects the underlying flammable material. The concept is simple but implementation can be tricky; this is where the extensive know-how of LUH often proves the decisive factor. Their expandable graphite grades can be finely tailored depending on the applications requirements in terms of starting temperature, expansion rate, particle size, expansion pressure, and pH.

The LUH expandable graphites can be used on their own or in synergy with other flame retardants. Key applications include flame retardant polyurethane foam products, engineering plastics, fire protection compounds and bitumen roofing membranes.
