Inside the Mix – Understanding additives in 3D printed concrete
3D printed concrete offers the potential for quick sustainable construction
Lawrence Industries is pleased to announce a new distribution partnership with Interplast Kimya, a leading Turkish manufacturer of polyurethane resins and speciality chemicals, for customers across the UK and Ireland.
Headquartered in Istanbul with over 50 years of heritage, Interplast Kimya has built a strong reputation for high-performance solutions in coatings, adhesives, printing inks, textile finishing and leather applications. Their products cover solvent-based and water-based polyurethane systems, enabling formulators to tackle demanding applications where durability, flexibility and aesthetics are critical.
Interplast operates under globally recognised standards including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 10002:2006 and ISO 5001:2018, and holds a Zero Waste Production Certificate. Supported by accredited laboratories for polymer synthesis, quality control and application development, they are able to develop tailored, project-specific solutions in close collaboration with customers.
As part of this new partnership, Lawrence Industries now offers Interplast’s AQUANEX range of water-based polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) to the UK and Irish market. AQUANEX provides a sustainable alternative to traditional solvent-based systems for coatings, textile and adhesive applications while maintaining high performance.
The AQUANEX portfolio includes aliphatic polyester, aliphatic polyether, aliphatic polycarbonate and aromatic polyether chemistries, giving formulators wide flexibility to fine-tune properties such as flexibility, abrasion resistance, yellowing resistance and substrate wetting. Products cover hardness from extra-soft (modulus around 5 kg/cm²) to very hard (up to 150 kg/cm²), with solids contents typically between 20% and 50% and viscosities from 50 to 6000 mPa·s to suit different coating and printing methods.
AQUANEX includes both NMP-containing and solvent-free (DMM co-solvent only) formulations to support evolving regulatory and sustainability targets. Aliphatic grades offer excellent light stability for leather, wood and textile finishes, while aromatic grades deliver strong wetting on more challenging substrates; specialised thermoadhesive grades with crystalline polyester backbones are also available for heat-activated bonding in footwear and lamination applications.
Interplast’s focus on water-based, bio-based, DMF-free and high-solid polyurethane systems aligns closely with Lawrence Industries’ drive to expand its offering of lower carbon, more sustainable technologies. Their ANEX bio-based polyurethane collection, alongside AQUANEX for coatings and INKANEX for inks, reflects a concerted push towards reduced environmental impact without sacrificing performance.
By combining Interplast’s R&D strength and manufacturing expertise with Lawrence Industries’ technical sales support and local market knowledge, this partnership aims to help customers accelerate innovation in coatings, adhesives and related applications while meeting increasingly stringent sustainability expectations.
